How is an SR22 Insurance Policy Different From Regular Auto Insurance?

One of the most common questions we get here at Wessell Insurance is… Exactly what is the difference between SR22/FR44 and regular car insurance?  The answer, quite simply is NOTHING.  An auto insurance policy is an auto insurance policy, and each state requires certain coverage and levels of insurance within any insurance policy written.

So, whether you are covering a car, truck, motorcycle, scooter, ATV, or nothing at all (non-owner SR22 policy) you are purchasing a regular insurance policy at minimum state liability limits (at least) the monthly premiums that you pay apply to your coverage, just as if it were a non-SR22 policy.  Once your SR22/FR44 requirement is fulfilled, you can continue with your policy as it is.  We are always removing SR22 filings from drivers done with the requirement, but need to continue to cover their car, truck, etc.  Many customers of ours have found that we remain the cheapest policy available, even without the SR22 required.

The SR22 is simply an insurance monitoring system that the state uses to keep track of certain offenders.  If the policy cancels before the SR22/FR44 requirement is met, the driver’s license is suspended until compliance is met again.  Financial responsibility is a term commonly used by states, along with compliance and SR22 bond.  All these items are simply devices to monitor an insurance policy, no matter what kind of policy it is.

We would be happy to further explain your situation over the phone.  Although the situation may seem complicated, we can get you compliant no matter what.  We are discreet and your information is always private with us.
