North Carolina law states that all drivers must be able to provide proof of liability insurance when they register their vehicle and at all times when driving their vehicle. The vehicle registered must be insured with a company licensed to do business in the state of North Carolina. Vehicle insurance policy, an insurance binder, and an insurance card with your name, policy number and active dates listed.  To obtain or possess a valid drivers license in North Carolins in 2024 a driver must have state required liability insurance, if you do not own a vehicle you can get Non-Owner sometimes incorrectly referred to as “non-driver” insurance which covers a driver without an owned vehicle is the cheapest policy and will provide the DL123 form as proof of insurance for the state.
